Microfiber is a synthetic yarn in which each of its fibers is approximately 1/20th the diameter of a strand of silk, 100 times finer than a human hair. Microfiber is made from a blend of polyester (the scrubbing and clinging material), and polyamide (a nylon by-product, the absorbent and quick-drying material). These materials are split then combined during the manufacturing process, creating a fiber with significantly increased surface area. The increased surface area along with the structure of the combined fibers gives microfiber its special cleaning abilities.
How does microfiber work?
Imagine a microscopic plastic wire that cuts through and breaks apart dust, dirt, grime and moisture, and then picks it up like a magnet (unlike traditional cotton cloths that just push dirt and moisture around) without scratching the surface. Microfiber is capable of absorbing up to seven times its own weight in moisture and can be used safely on any surface, and because less moisture is left on the surface during cleaning, the growth of bacteria is greatly inhibited, making microfiber a healthier and more sanitary option for cleaning.
